CHICO, Calif. (AP) - Authorities are continuing to search for a college student who went missing after setting out on the Sacramento River in an inner tube.
The Chico Enterprise-Record reports watercraft from Butte County search and rescue and other agencies will be on the river looking for 20-year-old Brett Olson through the weekend.
The Lafayette man was last seen Sunday afternoon on a portion of the river south of Chico called Beer Can Beach. He was taking part in an annual Labor Day weekend tradition that sees thousands of college students float on inner tubes there.
Authorities say it's possible Olson got lost in the heavy brush around the beach.
According to Olson's father, Olson's friends said he had been drinking, but they didn't think he was "over the edge

Police searched just south of West Sacramento Avenue and the woods north of Beer Can Beach Wednesday after someone heard moaning and groaning the night before, Butte County Sheriff Steve Collins said. Police also searched a stretch of river from Beer Can Beach to Ord Bend by boat with cadaver dogs.
The police are now moving their search toward downtown Chico because of tips and leads, Michael Olson said.
If Brett Olson isn’t found, authorities plan to go back to the river to see if there was something they overlooked, Collins said.

Hurt, I keep thinking he is in woods, rocky, fell in some kind of rocky area that makes sort of a cavern hole type place. Is there places like this in the area he was in. Maybe even in the edge of the water with the trees on top. several miles from "go with the flow"???? from where he started.

Yes water nearby but not in the water, very close to smell maybe like and alcove where the water is stagnant.

I asked for location but didn't get much. I saw water coming from a large pipe. In the past, this has meant near water and sometimes water that is in an industrial setting (i.e. water/sewer pipes or water district nearby or sewer area nearby). This isn't much help. I will try for more today.

A body thought to be missing college student Brett Olson was recovered on the Sacramento River this morning, and the Lafayette student's parents identified the body as that of their son.
Olson, 20, participated in the annual float on Labor Day weekend with thousands of other young adults. He was last seen a week ago, around 4 p.m., on an area known as "Beer Can Beach.''
The body was found down river, just upstream of a washout, on Sunday morning. People fishing from the bank saw the body floating in the water, flagged down a boat on the river, and the body was recovered.
Search-and-rescue teams brought it back upstream to the boat ramp at Scotty's Boat Landing, west of Chico, where Olson's parents were waiting. They hugged and wept after making a positive identification of the body.
Olson's parents have been in Chico all week, along with many friends, trying to help look for the Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo student.
An Enterprise-Record reporter and photographer are at the scene, and more details will be posted as we learn them.
